Creping of the skin as a form of aging, is commonly used for TV and Film as the appearance is alot more realistic and detailed, making it perfect for television, which picks up on tiny details and aspects of the performer. Along with the Theatrical Ageing, you need to take into account a few aspects in preparation before the application. What time period is the setting? What is the location and environmental aspects of the production? what is the social- economic standing of the performer? How old exactly is the character the actor/tress trying to portray? And how old do you want the performer to appear?
Products and equipment needed-
- Apron
- Palette/Bowl
- Kryolan Old Ages Stipple
- Disposable Sponges
- Hairdryer
- Kryolan Translucent Powder
- Charles Fox powder Puff
- Powder Brush
Method-
- Make sure that the surface area of the skin that you want to apply the Latex onto is perfectly clean and fresh
- Empty a small amount of the Latex onto your palette/ Bowl (I used my Palette).
- Then, using your disposable Sponge dab it into the Latex.
- Stretch out the area of the skin that you want to work on as much as possible (to create the best effect), and stroke the latex over the skin on that area.
- You have to work quite fast throughout this process so that the latex doesnt dry to quickly in one part as you are still applying it in another, and it get pulled away from the surface as a result.
- Dry the first layer with a hairdryer.
- Once it is dry, apply a second layer, You should still be pulling the skin tight throughout this whole progress and take care not to slack the tension.
- use the hairdryer to dry the layer.
- If you feel that a 3rd layer would benefit, then apply a 3rd, but if not then you can release from stretching the skin.
- apply a small amount of Translucent powder onto the puff, and apply it onto the area where the latex is.
- Smooth it over with the brush.
- Push the Skin together to create deeper creases into the skin for final touches
Health and Safety-
- If you want to create a barrier between your equipment and the latex, then you can wrap your equipment in cling film before decanting the latex onto it.
- Make sure that you have test patched the Liquid latex onto the model before proper use; this is to make sure that they are not allergic to it.
- Be careful not to pull too tight on the skin.
- Do not hold the hairdryer too close to the skin.
- Dont have the hairdryer on a high temperature setting; to prevent form burning.
