Theatrical Ageing

When Creating a Theatrical ageing look, you need to take into account a few aspects. For one, the production setting; what time era is the story set in? How old do you want the model to look? What are their ages? What is their social- economic background? All this is important when ageing a performer in order to make the look as aesthetically correct and on-point as you possibly can.

Products and Equipment needed-

  • Apron
  • Spatula
  • Palette
  • Charles Fox Brushes
  • Stipple Sponges
  • Mascara Wand
  • Kryolan Tooth enamel
  • Kryolan Foundation (shades warmer and lighter than the natural tone)
  • Kryolan Supracolor (red, white, Black)
  • Kryolan Transluscent Powder
  • Charles Fox Powder Puff

Method-

  1. First Begin with a clean fresh face, ready for makeup application
  2. mix together on you Palette using the spatula, the Foundation base. Make sure that this is 1-2 shades lighter than the natural tone.
  3. Using a foundation brush apply the base coat onto the model, making sure that you cover the ears, lips and down the neck, make sure that you also push the colour up into the hair line; you want it to be as authentic as possible and without any visible patches or streaks
  4. You then need to mix together a skin tone that i 1-2 shades warmer than the natural tone, again, using the spatula and the Palette,
  5. Then using a very fine, firm brush you need to apply the wrinkles onto the face; forehead, eyes, chin, nose and cheeks.
  6. First begin with the Forehead, get you model to lift up their eyebrows so the grooves appear, using the fine brush you then need to trace these creases, try and keep them as accurate as possible to that it looks slightly realistic.
  7. Also get your model to frown slightly and trace the creases between the eyes also.
  8. Then you need to trace the lines of their eyes, do this by getting teh model to crease their eyes.
  9. Give the model dark circles beneath the eyes, you can use your finger for this, so that the blending is alot easier to manage.
  10. You next need to create the wrinkes around the nose, get you model to smile, and the lines that are created from the sides of the nostrils and don the cheeks need to be traced.
  11. The last wrinkle needed is on the chin, the crease just below the bottom lip needs to be more defined so using the fine brush, go over it.
  12. Using a bigger contouring brush, use the rest of the Grease paint to hollow out the cheeks of the model.
  13. Using your little finger, smooth out all of the wrinkles, blend them in slightly, but not too much as they still need to be visible.
  14. Then Powder the face to set the grease paints beneath it.(Using a powder puff to apply the powder then a larger softer brush to smooth it all over).
  15. Then apply a Red grease paint onto the stipple sponge.
  16. Before application, dab it onto the back of your hand so that you know the consistency and amount of red coming off is appropriate and right for your requirement.
  17. When your ready, dab the nose, apples of the cheeks, and chin, you only need a subtle redness to the look, so be careful not to apply too much.
  18. Then apply white grease paint onto the Mascara wand, and go through the eyebrows, making sure that you brush through the majority of the hairs,
  19. Make sure that you push the hairs out of place as well, and make them look messy.
  20. Using the krolan Tooth enamel, apply it to the tooth you want it on and leave it to dry.
  21. Using the powder puff, and a small amount of transluscent powder rub it over the lips slightly to give the impression of dry lip.
As a final touch apply a wig to the model, and the look is complete!
